Your point is obvious, and a good one. However people root for a team more than the individual players that it is comprised of. So rooting for the Lakers means rooting for your city. People aren't as concerned who or where the people come from, because once they are there, they become part of the team, and part of the city.

Wow, that's pretty funny. But you have to think about it, Kobe's from Philly, but how long has he been in LA playing basketball? His entire 12 seasons, Odom's been there for a while as well but you have to realize that they are there to get paid to play basketball. If they were traded or drafted somewhere else, sure enough they would represent that basketball team not the city.
