First things first, MTP is Kobe, no doubt. I mean, 10 games with 50 points or more (rest of NBA together has 8). The thing about Raja Bell is a fair point. I missed Lakers Suns but I think Kobe had by his standards a poor game from the stat line. Lets face it, if you can shut Kobe you can cream the Lakers. So maybe Lakers would be better of with the 8th seed.

Redd will never go to the Lakers, he plays the same position than Kobe, he can't play the small forward or the point. Jamison has a better chance but the Wizards already have a small forward (Caron Butler) and they're not interested in Odom who's the only player who could make this trade work.

It wasn't so much what the Lakers did in the 4th, it was what the Celtics didn't do. And that was continue to be aggressive and dominate the game until the very end.

Boston was lucky to end up pulling out the win. But no more lucky than LA to even have the opportunity of a comeback after they played so horribly most of the game. Sorry, but LA hasn't quite earned much yet.
Yeah they came alive in the fourth period. Now you notice at the end of the game Kobe still passed up the shot so Fisher could shoot the three so I had to give him some respect because I used to hate him from hearing this from the announcers: Kobe with the three-pointer ahh Kobe missed oh Kobe has the ball back and he makes the mid-range jumper. They are a good team, right now along with the Spurs, they are playing the best basketball in the NBA. There are still some 20 games left though and with the race so close right now, they could drop to a 5 seed in a few games. I do think they or the Spurs will finish #1 in the West though. It is nice to see that The Lakers brass finally got Gasol to help out Kobe. Still, the Werst is going to be an extremely tough battle this year. Kobe is still the best player in the NBA.

Yes , there starting unit is very strong. Kobe and Fisher, one of the better guard combinations. Also one of the better frontlines, in Bynum,Gasol, and Odom. Walton , farmer, and Turiaf off the bench. Could use a shooter off the bench!
The Lakers have always been a great team! Their tradition is about winning championships - they've the 2nd most championships in NBA history and are the winningest team in NBA history. They are a franchise with a history of winning, some great loyal fans, and it looks like the Lakers are back!!!

i can't wait to hang a couple of more banners up in the Staples Center and hopefully we'll catch the Celtics for the most NBA championships by the end of the decade.

They have great chemistry and are playing hard which had been a little lacking the last couple of years. I really like the cast of players they have and with Ariza and Bynum coming back they can be a force to reckon with in the playoffs!

I do think they are a good team. I think at the moment they are playing some of the best basketball in the league. I think the Gasol trade has worked out really well, given them a good inside presence, given KB24 something to work with. I think when Bynum comes back, this trade will look even better than it does right now. They are playing a team oriented game which suits them a lot better. The pick and roll with Kobe and Gasol, is one of the most unstoppable moves in basketball right now. I do question their depth though. They are a really solid team through the first 7 players, but a little suspect after that. They should go deep in to the playoffs though....

Of course they have a good team they have good players at every position especially sense they got Gasol. They have a deep bench once they all get healthy and they're pretty good. Last but no least the Lakers have the best player on the planet on their team.
They are a good team now and I love it. The one season a few years back when they missed the playoffs, I lost all interest in the NBA postseason because I had no one to root against. Now they are back to the playoffs and they keep finding exciting new ways to lose a first round series. Wow, that's pretty funny. But you have to think about it, Kobe's from Philly, but how long has he been in LA playing basketball? His entire 12 seasons, Odom's been there for a while as well but you have to realize that they are there to get paid to play basketball. Two things must happen in order to guarentee these teams in the finals....

Lakers: Kobe must raise his team up, he must increase their lvl of gameplay. He must become a TRUE leader just like Michael Jordan. If he does not...the experienced Spurs, or the heart led Suns i'm afraid will take them out.

Celtics: The Big Three must play with the emotion of a true championship team. These guys have never been there and this is there chance to shine....show what your made of, don't hold back.

I love the Lakers, and Spurs are aight. I began to like the Spurs because of how lame the Suns were last playoffs. So I enjoyed the rest of the playoffs with the spurs. I like them but I'm a Laker forever. And todays game with Spurs and New Orleans, I think they won it because of Tony Parkers arrival. And Lakers will fight for their wins. I think Lakers will be in the finals, but it ain't gonna matter who they against cause they on top of the world baby.

Lakers and Celtics would be an awesome, storybook Final. Lakers seeking their 15th title while the Celtics would be seeking their 17th. The Lake Show versus the Boston 3 Party. It would be a PR frenzy and gold mine. Could it happen? I think so, but it will be a very tough road for both squads. The Lakers are playing great ball, but they will have to escape from the West and potentially face-off with some highly potent teams (Spurs, Suns, Jazz, and Hornets to name a few) in doing so. The Celtics have go through the Pistons and Cavs. I think the Magic are a good playoff sleeper, but highly inconsistent to say they're worthy of an upset. If I had to pick which has a better shot at the Finals, I would say the Celts because the Lakers have to come out of the West which is so strong. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch it all unfold.

The Lakers and Celtics again! I love it! I'm enamored by the city of Boston and New England in particular(it's so uniquely beautiful), but Los Angeles is the ultimate for me. I lived in Southern California as a small child, and L.A. has always stuck with me ever since. I must confess I was on the Celtic bandwagon for a time from 86-88, and rooted for them in 87 against the Lakers. It's a complicated reason as to why I did that. But since then, my undying love for L.A. has returned me to rooting for the Lakers like I always SHOULD have. I am so happy that they are playing the Celtics again. I feel I'm making up for not rooting for L.A. in 87.

As for the actual matchup? I can't logically see how the Lakers can lose. Yes, Boston had a better record and swept the Lakers during the season. However, considering the talent level of their respective conferences, it's quite another story. Boston was taken the distance by Atlanta, the EIGHTH seed with a LOSING record. Cleveland went the distance with them as well. Meanwhile, over in the West, Golden State DID NOT qualify for the postseason despite a 48-34 record. How question-raising is that in itself? Not to mention that Kobe and Co. made it look so easy against the Spurs. Aging San Antonio may be, but still the class of the NBA. If these are any indicators, L.A. is in for a great '08!

Basically it's like its been for so many years. Whoever wins the West wins it all.

I think so, even though Kobe is shooting the ball more than ever. I think that the rest of the starting lineup is starting to figure out the triangle offense. I think as the play of Odom and Smush Parker improves, Kobe won't have to take as many shots. I also like their rookie Andrew Bynum, this kid is for real and he's only 18. This team will make the playoffs, but they will lose in the first round.

Probably the Rockets, especially without Yao. When you got Mutumbo at center and Chuck Hayes as the back up it only spells trouble. Plus it seems as if Mcgrady can't turn it on anymore like he used to. Utah has more options overall in Boozer, Williams, Kirilenko, Okur, and even Millsap and Ronnie Brewer. But Kirilenko and Odom are a great matchup to watch.

I personally believe that he is a very talented player however he does not have very good court smarts and just piles through towards the basket, most of the time picking up the charge and the turnover. Lamar needs to have the smarts of Luke Walton, then he would be unstoppable. True, he makes a lot of rebound and he is tall however we have Bynum to do that for us now.

they will need him in the playoffs for sure. odom is their best rebounder and one of their better defensive players. odom is very versatile and can spread the D out because he can hit 3s. sure they may lose 3 regular season games with him in but remember he just came back from surgery and it takes time to get that chemistry and stamina back.

EdV is right. Why all the interest in a Lakers-Suns match up? If you're a fan of one team or the other, and your team gets to the finals without meeting the other, you're not going to say your conference championship is tainted.

If you are a fan of either team, it doesn't matter really who you face in the playoffs - you would be happy if they just won. Like, even if you are a big Kobe and Lakers fan, does it really matter if your team plays the Suns? All that matters is you BEAT THE OTHER TEAM whoever it is, unless you are really getting personal with Shaq and the Suns.

So I would suppose for most Suns and Lakers fans, the disappointment would be just around 5-6 at most, as long as their team wins.

But if you are just a fan of basketball in general (like me), you do WANT to see the Suns meet the Lakers. Kobe trying to show he could lead his team to victory over the Suns, especially the Suns with Shaq. It will be classic.

So if it doesn't happen, and we see other playoff matchups without a Suns-Lakers series, it's around 7-8.
I would be disappointed, but I'm not really sure how effective shaq will be by then. i'm sure he's always motivated to stick it to kupchack and buss. i'd say a 6.
